Background Cabut (Cbt) is a C2H2-class zinc finger transcription factor involved in embryonic dorsal closure, epithelial regeneration and other developmental processes in Drosophila melanogaster. Cbt orthologs have been identified in other Drosophila species and insects as well as in vertebrates. Indeed, Cbt is the Drosophila ortholog of the group of vertebrate proteins encoded by the TGF-s-inducible early-response genes (TIEGs), which belong to Sp1-like/Kruppel-like family of transcription factors. Rapid nucleus-scale reorganization of chromatin in neurons enables transcriptional adaptation for memory consolidation

AbstractThe interphase nucleus is functionally organized in active and repressed territories defining the transcriptional status of the cell. However, it remains poorly understood how the nuclear architecture of neurons adapts in response to behaviorally relevant stimuli that trigger fast alterations in gene expression patterns. A genomic view of mRNA turnover in yeast

The steady-state mRNA level is the result of two opposing processes: transcription and degradation; both of which can provide important points to regulate gene expression. In the model organism yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, it is now possible to determine, at the genomic level, the transcription and degradation rates, as well as the mRNA amount, using DNA chip or parallel sequencing technologies. DSL Tool Development with Transformations and Static Mappings

A tool development framework for domain-specific languages combining mapping and transformation based approaches is proposed in this research project. The combination of both approaches permits to use advantages and eliminate disadvantages as far as possible. First results are described including draft architecture for the framework implementing proposed ideas. A sketch of mapping definition facilities is presented. Initial implementation proposals are described as well. A template based graphical generation language Template MOLA for implementation algorithm description is introduced.

Homeostasis in the Central Dogma of molecular biology: the importance of mRNA instability

Cell survival requires the control of biomolecule concentration, i.e. biomolecules should approach homeostasis. With information-carrying macromolecules, the particular concentration variation ranges depend on each type: DNA is not buffered, but mRNA and protein concentrations are homeostatically controlled, which leads to the ribostasis and proteostasis concepts. Capturing colorectal cancer inter-tumor heterogeneity in patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models

Patient‐derived xenograft (PDX) models have become an important asset in translational cancer research. However, to provide a robust preclinical platform, PDXs need to accommodate the tumor heterogeneity that is observed in patients. Colorectal cancer (CRC) can be stratified into four consensus molecular subtypes (CMS) with distinct biological and clinical features. Surprisingly, using a set of CRC patients, we revealed the partial representation of tumor heterogeneity in PDX models.
